It can be driven close to walls without crashing and avoids steps, and also automatically raises its mop when it drives over rugs and short-pile carpets. It struggled a bit when it encountered longer-pile carpets and also some thick, long mess of dried-on debris.
Like all robots like it, the S1 Pro comes ready to roll out of the box, and requires only a quick initial mapping run to learn its way around your home. The map will be displayed in the app and you can add or merge rooms as necessary. You can also set virtual boundaries as well as no-go or no-mop zones if there's something you don't want your robot to be able to touch.
